The phone rang at about 5:30 pm early in April. Rick Johnson's voice was clear. "Stephen, you have been approved by the AGWM board for approval to the nation of Burundi". My heart leapt within me.
After several years of anticipating this moment it had finally arrived. As I hung up the phone, my heart soared with gratitude to the Lord. My mind also began to race. What was the next step? How would I begin the itineration process?
Within days, Jason Bowman, a friend of mine who serves as the college and Career pastor at Evangel Temple in Springfield contacted me. "Stephen, would you be willing to come share with our group on a Wednesday night?" I had not told him about the approval for full time missions yet.
Immediately, I sensed that the Lord was going to use this experience as a model for the entire itineration process. God was going to open doors in His timing! That Wednesday night I was extremely nervous, but I knew the Lord gave me a very clear and strong message to share.
As I shared the Word of the Lord on having a passion to see the nations worship our King, the Lord solidified my earlier sense of His guidance in this process. My heart seemed aflame with His desire to reach the nations. The Holy Spirit moved in a very special way among the young people present.
That night I left Evangel Temple humbled by the Lord's presence and excited to continue sharing in churches across this nation.
