Five weeks of incredible relationship building, anointed services, and missiological training have come to an end. Candidate school and School of Missions is designed to prepare missionary candidates for their fields of service. This event takes place annually at Evangel College, Springfield, MO.
During this time, candidates are given the opportunity to interact with some of the leading scholars and visionaries in the missions world. Relationship development with people heading to the same part of the world is also an integral part of the program. Dorm life is an interesting experience too.
The final night of School of Missions is the most memorable. The individual candidates are commissioned to their fields of service. Alton Garrison preached a powerful message calling us to serve God’s purposes in this generation. Then the names of each missionary together with their field of service were called.
Hearing the various nations of the earth named was moving. Clearly, the Lord is moving as He calls forth representatives to the ends of the earth. It is interesting to note that many candidates this year are headed to very difficult places. This speaks volumes to the fact that every nation must be given the chance to hear the message of Christ!
What followed next was a powerful time of prayer. Each candidate is requested to choose a prayer partner to personally commission them while Brother Trask prays for the entire group. Soon the sound of prayer reverberated through the entire auditorium as we called on God for these missionaries to be used to reach nations!
My dad, a missionary for 30 years to Kenya, prayed with me. It was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. We are believing God for a spiritual awakening in the nation of Burundi!
