Walk With Steve Into Missionary Appointment

Steve speaks at
Speed the Light Youth Convention

OPPORTUNITIES

Itineration presents many opportunities.  Over the past 8 months I have visited congregations in nine different states.  Most of these follow the normal Sunday/ Wednesday  church service format.   A few have been church missions banquets, youth group missions services, and home group (cell) meetings with a missions focus.

At a church not so long ago I was asked to spend ten minutes with the youth, ten minutes with the young married couples, and preach the Wednesday night service to the adults.  It was an interesting challenge to connect God’s work in Burundi with three very different groups of people.  I had to talk fast.

My favorite experience up to this point has to be the Speed the Light youth convention that I spoke at.  Speed the Light is the Assemblies of God's program to mobilize young people to raise money to purchase  missionaries’ vehicles. It is a tremendous blessing to missionaries on the field.

I had no idea what to expect.  Arriving at the venue, I was amazed at how much preparation had gone into this meeting.  The stage was set with all kinds of techno lights and projection systems.  The worship group was incredibly talented.  And there were at least five hundred young people there.  Nervous does not begin to describe how I felt!

I had prepared a very simple message.  When I was introduced to speak the room went dark and a spotlight was placed on me. It was blinding.  So much for being able to look at my notes.  I had to rely on God to bring back to mind the different points.  I couldn’t see my notebook.

At the close of the challenge I was giving, the Lord’s presence showed up in a very special way.  Many young people responded to the call to take the light of Christ to a dark world.  I  believe that some young people’s hearts would be touched for missions.  It was a great opportunity to connect with young people.
