Running With Purpose

Questions

Itineration is busy.  This last month I drove close to 4,500 miles visiting churches across Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. I had the chance to speak or meet with representatives of about 18 different congregations.   I often awoke in the morning trying to remember where I had spent the night.  Was I in Broken Bow, Beatrice, or Independence? It is not always easy to remember.  Had I remembered to bring toothpaste?  My cell phone charger?

What about my running shoes?  In Independence I had to borrow running shoes from my friends Steve and Melissa Wilson so that I could work out.  Steve’s shoe was too big.  Melissa’s was a little tight- but somehow I managed.  As you can imagine Melissa’s  orange and white shoes were entertainment for everyone at the YMCA that night!

Often the questions persisted.  Where was my next stop? How long would it take me to get there? What was the pastor’s name again?  What message was I going to share?  Did I remember to bring my display board?

Other questions are more penetrating.  Why was I doing this again? Oh yeah- Burundi.  That little nation that desperately needs a move of God.  A land full of unspeakable pain and suffering.  A country that needs healing.  A generation in desperate need of the peace and purpose that can only be found in Jesus.

There’s a song we sang in college.  Something to the effect- “Jesus Christ I think about your sacrifice.  You became nothing poured out to death.  Once again I look upon your saving grace and I am full of faith once again”.  More and more I look upon His sacrifice.  Everything in my life quickly comes into clear focus again.
